INITIATOR: PLANNING DIRECTOR (PL-PDI-2024-000008) <br />The Planning Director has initiated an ordinance to amend Chapter 25 (Zoning), Article <br />2, Article 4, Article 5, and Article 7 of the Hawai‘i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended) relating to telecommunication antennas and towers. The purpose is to remove <br />the requirement for a use permit to establish telecommunication antennas and <br />towers in <br />certain zoning districts, add application requirements, and amend standards for the <br />establishment of telecommunication antennas and towers. <br />I cannot explain without you witnessing my emotion over this breach of the public trust. <br />I support Council Member Cindy Evans' proposed telecommunications ordinance, <br />Bill 194! <br />It gives almost total power to Planning and Telecom corporations who have no profit made by <br />limiting themselves and their range of influence. Note there are no agencies that are watchdogs <br />for the public or scientific nor medical experts overseeing our health! The big "tell" in all this; the <br />approval process was reduced to only 30 days! There are no protective provisions to guard us <br />against 5G small cells! It freely allows towers at schools, playgrounds and day care centers! I <br />remind you that the worst outbreaks of COVID in 2020 was Wuhan China and Northern <br />Italy...They had the highest # of deaths! <br />I urge you consider Council Member Evans proposed ordinance which has clear, attainable <br />requirements.
