Department of Public Works Traffic Division has three (3) locations identified for traffic calming.
Proposed are the following:
1. Paniolo Ave @ Lua Kula St:
a. Inbound & outbound speed tables at full width ideally at the straightaways on the
approach to the existing crosswalk.
b. Rapid flash beacons to be installed at the crosswalk.
An easement may be required for installation due to the narrow
sidewalk and existing underground utilities.
Inbound RRFB to include a street light pole & LED.
c. Pavement legend to be installed on Lua Kula St as emphasis for stop control.
2. Paniolo Ave @ Pu`u Nui St:
a. Inbound speed table at full width and at the inflection point of the S-curve on the
approach to the existing crosswalk.
b. Outbound speed table at full width and at the tangent on the approach to the existing
crosswalk.
c. Rapid flash beacons to be installed at the crosswalk.
An easement may be required for installation due to the narrow
sidewalk and existing underground utilities.
Outbound RRFB to include a street light pole & LED.
d. New curb ramp to be installed.
3. Paniolo Ave @ Waikoloa Elem School:
a. Install raised crosswalk/speed table.
b. Existing RRFB’s in place on either side. Perhaps one within the median may be
considered.
