The Environmental Management Commission (EMC) believes the the County requires additional
certified water technicians to meet Department of Environmental Management (DEM)
wastewater management needs. Dealing with the County's several USEPA wastewater
Administrative Orders on Consent, the State Act 125 cesspool conversion law, and future
regulatory and technical innovations requires an active workforce development program.
On September 25, 2024, recognizing the shortall in DEM's existing workforce and recruitment
ability to provide state-of-the-art wastewater operations and maintenance, EMC adopted a
motion to:
Request the County Administration and Council support the present and additional water
technician certification programs to address the workforce shortage.
Sincerely,
Georj6dL. Adams, Chair
