VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />11/14/24 <br />Purpose: To Advise the County on Matters pertaining to the operation, management and <br />maintenance of veterans' cemeteries and discuss and make recommendations <br />on issues affecting veterans residing in Hawaii County. <br />Authority: Section 15-61, Hawaii County Code, as amended, in conjunction with Hawaii <br />Revised Statutes, Section 363-5 <br />Appointment: Mayor with Council approval. Normal five year staggered terms. <br />Full Membership: Twelve members. <br />Ex-Officio Members: Hawaii Island Veterans Affairs Advisor, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />Specific Representation: Must have one representative from each of the following organization: American <br />Legion, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Big Island Retired <br />Military Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Committee must also include <br />eight at -large members. <br />Requirements: At least seven members must have served in the United States uniformed <br />services. <br />Meetings: Meetings are usually held via Zoom Videoconferencing Software and <br />videoconference held at the West Hawaii Civic Center. <br />Financial Disclosure: Not required. <br />Reappointment: Members shall be eligible to succeed themselves for additional terms, provided <br />that no member shall serve on the committee for more than three consecutive <br />terms. <br />Qualities: Respected by the community and by veterans as being community -minded and <br />oriented.
