While the advancement of technology and connectivity is vital, we must carefully consider the implications of these towers on our health, environment, and cultural heritage. First and foremost, the potential health risks associated with exposure to radiofrequency radiation are significant. Numerous studies suggest a correlation between long-term exposure to this radiation and various health issues, including headaches, sleep disturbances, and even more serious conditions. As residents of this beautiful island, we cherish our health and the well-being of our families, and we should not allow profit-driven motives to jeopardize that. Furthermore, the installation of cell phone towers poses a threat to our unique environment. The Big Island is home to diverse ecosystems, including endangered species and fragile habitats. These towers not only disrupt the natural landscape but also threaten wildlife, which relies on undisturbed environments for survival. We have a responsibility to protect our land for future generations, ensuring that the beauty and biodiversity of the island remain intact. Additionally, we must consider the cultural implications of erecting these structures. Hawaii is steeped in rich traditions and a deep connection to the land. The construction of cell phone towers can disrupt sacred sites and alter the essence of our community. We must prioritize respect for our cultural heritage over technological expansion. In conclusion, while connectivity is important, we must approach the issue of cell phone towers with caution and care. I urge our community to explore alternative solutions that do not compromise our health, environment, or culture. Let us protect the beauty and integrity of the Big Island for ourselves and for generations to come. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Marisa Papen
