Dear Commission Members: I am writing this letter in support of the application by Big Island Candies, Inc.to have an extension of time to develop its property and a related request to extend the time to develop road and sidewalk improvements when it develops the property. As a business owner in the area, I understand how much the economy plays a role in the success of a business and how it can affect plans for expansion. BIC has been able to continue its current level of operations during the various downturns in visitors associated with lava flows, recessions, inflation and the recent pandemic. The traffic related to BIC's operations have remained safe and more traffic improvements are not needed at this time. Please allow Big Island Candies, Inc. the extension of time to expand its operations and install road improvements as the need arises and economic circumstances permit. Dear Commission Members: I am writing this letter in support of the request by Big Island Candies, Inc. (BIC)to have an extension of time. (Application No. PL-REZ-2024-000065). My business is on Hinano Street, in the vicinity of the BIC warehouse and retail operations. BIC has been a good neighbor and considerate. It is locally owned and operated, and is an important part of the East Hawaii community. Its current operations have not required that sidewalk improvements or road widening be installed, and there are frankly few, if any, pedestrians that walk along Kekuanaoa Street. While such improvements may be nice to have in the future, such improvements are not required at this time. Thank you for your consideration in allowing BIC the time to expand its operations in the future and to work on the road improvements when it is needed. Thank you for your time.
