Regular Meeting of the Pension Board
November 27, 2023

CALL TO ORDER: The quarterly meeting of the Pension Board was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by
Chair Lucas.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Walter Lucas, Chair
Carol Ann Marumoto, Vice Chair
Joyce Unoki, Member
Also Present: Aaron Brown, Deputy County Clerk
Jon Henricks, County Clerk, and Ex-Officio Secretary
Kay Oshiro, Controller, Department of Finance
Deanna Sako, Finance Director, and Ex-Officio Treasurer
Elizabeth Strance, Corporation Counsel
Linda Young, Payroll Specialist 11, Department of Finance
Nicole Bello, Private Secretary, Office of the County Clerk
STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: (There were none)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: November 28, 2022
Vice Chair Marumoto moved to approve the minutes of November 28, 2022. Seconded by Ms. Unoki.
The motion to approve the minutes of November 28, 2022, was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Member Unoki, Vice Chair Marumoto, and Chair Lucas—3.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Election of Officers (December 2023 —November 2024)
Chair Lucas proceeded with the Election of Officers and asked for nominations for Chair for the
upcoming year.
Ms. Unoki made a motion to nominate Mr. Lucas as Chair of the Pension Board for an additional
year. Seconded by Vice Chair Marumoto.
The motion for Mr. Lucas as Chair was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Member Unoki, Vice Chair Marumoto, and Chair Lucas—3.

Chair Lucas asked for nominations for Vice Chair for the upcoming year.
Vice Chair Marumoto made a motion to nominate Ms. Unoki as Vice Chair of the Pension Board
for the upcoming year. Seconded by Chair Lucas.
The motion for Ms. Unoki as Vice Chair was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Member Unoki, Vice Chair Marumoto, and Chair Lucas—3.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. From the Accounts Division: 2023 County Pensioner Statistics
Ms. Young, Payroll Specialist 11 from the Accounts Division, summarized:
a. As of November 15, 2023, there are 13 active pensioners.
b. The youngest pensioner is 65 years of age, the oldest is 101 years of age.
c. Two deaths were reported in 2023, and no new pensions were awarded.
Chair Lucas asked if there were any other announcements. (There were none)
Chair Lucas requested that all attendees try to find more members for the Pension Board. He also
confirmed that his term, along with Vice Chair Marumoto's, will expire on December 31, 2024.
ADJOURNMENT:
Ms. Unoki made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Vice Chair Marumoto.
The motion to adjourn was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Member Unoki,Vice Chair Marumoto, and Chair Lucas—3.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:37 p.m.
