The procedure should not be construed as creating a higher duty of care, in an evidentiary sense, with respect to third party civil claims against employees. A violation of this procedure, if proven, can only form the basis of a complaint by this department for non-judicial administrative action in accordance with the laws governing employee discipline. Applicable HI Statutes: Other Statutes: I.PURPOSEThe purpose of this policy is to provide the employees of Hawai' i Fire Department (HFD)direction in reducing energy related cost to the department. II.APPLICABILITY This policy shall apply to all employees of the Hawai'i Fire Department inclusive of membersof our Volunteer Section. III.POLICYA.The employer shall endeavor to provide energy efficient equipment, fixtures, and supplies to its HFD facilities. B.Lights shall be off in all rooms during periods of non-use. The last employee out of a roomshall ensure that lights are turned off.C.Only HFD provided major appliances, such as but not limited to, refrigerators, freezers,television, extractor, etc., shall be plugged into HFD facilities. 1.Group purchase of major electrical appliances that are available for use of all station members may be utilized only with the approval of the Fire Chief or his delegate.2. Personal fans, computers, radios, small appliances, etc. do not apply to this policy.D.Personal Alternative Energy Vehicles shall not be recharged via HFD station powersupply. E.Air conditioning units shall be turned off during known periods where HFD employees will be out of their work facility for a period greater than two hours.F.All air conditioning units shall be set at a temperature no lower than 72 degrees.G.All air conditioning units shall be set to economy mode when available for that system.H.Only HFD owned air conditioning units shall be installed in HFD facilities. I.The non-emergency operations use of department vehicles shall be planned to provide for the most beneficial use of fuel.J.Whenever emergency incidents permit, apparatus motors will be turned off if apparatus isstaged or part of the mitigation efforts. --End—
