MEMORANDUM No. BLD-24-001R
This memorandum supersedes previously issued Memo BLD-24-001 with a revised stamp. The content of previously issued Memo BLD-24-001 remains the same and is reproduced below for clarity together with the revised stamp.
Beginning July 1, 2024, the Building Division will no longer accept affidavits in lieu of the required manufacturer’s identification for tempered glass.
Both the 2018 IRC Section R308.1 and 2018 IBC Section 2406.3 clearly state an exception, “for other than tempered glass”:
For other than tempered glass, manufacturer’s designations are not required provided that the building official approves the use of a certificate, affidavit, or other evidence confirming compliance with this code.
Model codes for previous years included the same exception be allowed, “for other than tempered glass” and is consistent with the 2018 code.
The Building Division recognizes that past-practices are being changed. Therefore, beginning
July 1, 2024, Plans Examiners shall apply the following stamp as notification to permittees that
