Dear Chair DeFranco, Vice Chair Paishon-Duarte and Members of the Committee,
My name is Mark Anthony Clemente writing on behalf of the Hawai'i Regional Council of
Carpenters to comment on Kona Hawaii Development, LLC's application for a Special
Management Area Use Permit to develop a 100-room hotel and related improvements.
We share a growing concern with the Hawai'i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations of
noncompliance of laws in the Hilo and Kona areas with respect to construction developments,
and we will work to ensure that developers or contractors who wish to do business in our state
follow the laws and pay living wages to local skilled craftspeople.
