I fully endorse Council Member Cindy Evans' proposed telecommunications ordinance, Bill
194, which has already been submitted for your review. The new ordinance put forward by the
Director favors the telecommunications industry too heavily and lacks sufficient safeguards
for our community.
Under the proposed ordinance, towers and antennas could be installed in every zoning district
without any permitting process or adequate regulations. It centralizes decision-making power
solely within the Planning Department, excluding other relevant agencies.
I urge you to consider Council Member Evans' ordinance, which provides clear and practical
permit requirements. It strikes the ideal balance between protecting public health, safety, and
welfare while accommodating the needs of the technology sector.
