Aloha, Hawaii Island Planning Department,
I’d like it be known that I oppose Item #4. In its stead, I support Council Member
Cindy Evans' proposed telecommunications ordinance, Bill 194. I find the new
ordinance proposed by the Planning Director is too sympathetic to the
telecommunications industry with not enough protections for our community, while
giving almost total power to Planning and Telecom with no other agencies or experts
involved.
Why has the approval process been shorten to only 30 days? Where are the
provisions to protect us against 5G small cells, especially when freely allowing towers
at schools, playgrounds and day care centers?
Please consider Evan’s Bill 194. which has clear, attainable requirements while
balancing the needs of the tech industry and the health, safety and welfare of the
people .
