HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-12-09 Pension Board Meeting Minutes (Draft) DRAFT Minutes Regular Meeting of the Pension Board December 9, 2024 Council Chambers, Hawaii County Building,Hilo, Hawaii CALL TO ORDER: The quarterly meeting of the Pension Board was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Chair Lucas. ROLL CALL: Present: Walter Lucas, Chair Cathy Ferreira, Member Carol Ann Marumoto, Member Absent& Excused: Joyce Unoki, Vice Chair Also Present: Aaron Brown, Deputy County Clerk Jon Henricks, County Clerk, and Ex-Officio Secretary Malia Kekai, Deputy Director of Finance Leisha Koreyasu, Payroll Specialist H, Department of Finance Diane Nakagawa, Director of Finance, and Ex-Officio Treasurer Kay Oshiro, Acting Controller, Department of Finance Elizabeth Strance, Corporation Counsel Nicole Bello, Private Secretary, Office of the County Clerk STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: (There were none from the public.) Chair Lucas then asked if anyone present would like to make a statement. Mr. Henricks thanked Chair Lucas and Ms. Marumoto for their years of service to the Pension Board. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: November 27, 2023 Ms. Marumoto moved to approve the minutes of November 27, 2023. Seconded by Ms. Ferreira. The motion to approve the minutes of November 27, 2023, was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Ferreira, Marumoto, and Chair Lucas —3. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Election of Officers (December 2024—November 2025) Chair Lucas proceeded with the Election of Officers and asked for nominations for Chair for the upcoming year. Ms. Marumoto made a motion to nominate Ms. Ferreira as Chair of the Pension Board. Seconded by Ms. Ferreira. Page 1 of 2 DRAFT The motion for Ms. Ferreira as Chair was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Ferreira, Marumoto, and Chair Lucas —3. Chair Lucas asked for nominations for Vice Chair for the upcoming year. (There were none.) ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. From the Accounts Division: 2024 County Pensioner Statistics Ms. Koreyasu, Payroll Specialist II from the Accounts Division, summarized: a. As of November 30, 2024, there are 13 active pensioners. b. The youngest pensioner is 66 years of age, the oldest is 102 years of age. c. No deaths were reported in 2024, and no new pensions were awarded. Chair Lucas asked if there were any other announcements. (There were none.) Chair Lucas stated that he was very thankful and appreciative for serving on the Pension Board. He also expressed his willingness to serve for another year or two, if allowed to do so, until more members are appointed to the board. ADJOURNMENT: Ms. Marumoto made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Ms. Ferreira. The motion to adjourn was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Ferreira, Marumoto, and Chair Lucas —3.
