Comm. 25-012
From: Kelsey Bunting
To: PONC Testimony
Subject: PONC testimony Kumukahi
Date: Monday,March 3, 2025 9:22:48 AM
Aloha,
I would like to submit a testimony in favor of acquiring Kumukahi lands for cultural
preservation and public access. I am aware that there are special sites surrounding and at
Kumukahi, including a heiau, 'iwi kanaka, and access to natural resources. I also understand
there is wildlife inhabiting this area, such as monkseal, that I want to see protected and cared
for.
I would like to see these lands at and surrounding Kumukahi to be taken care of by the
Kuamo'o Legacy foundation, because I know that majority of them are descendants of the
lands of Kumukahi. In order to be properly maintained and preserved in its integrity, I trust the
descendants of these lands to not only protect the history of this place but also to perpetuate
the wellbeing of Kumukahi both on the physical (environmental) and the spiritual (cultural)
level. The Kuamo'o foundation and the Ho'oulu Lahui will be great tenets in caring for the
cultural sites mentioned above and in ensuring access to natural resources.
Please, acquire these lands of Kumukahi to be restored and preserved by rightful, responsible
tenets, namely, the Kuamo'o Legacy foundation and the Ho'oulu Lahui.
Aloha and best regards,
Kelsey Foreman Bunting
Vice President, Malama i ke Kumu NPO
