I am emailing regarding the draft minutes posted from the 5/28 Environmental Management Commission meeting in preparation for the
6/25 EMC meeting.
To clarify, my comments were not to address FOG, although that is something that I think should be addressed. My question was with
regards to the County's communications plan to facilitate the requirements of the AOC and transitions from cesspool to sewer. I mentioned FOG because Christy
had shared at our Pua Pump Station site visit that she was awaiting approval on a social media post regarding FOG. I also mentioned DEM's verbal commitment to look into
a community meeting to provide more transparency with the community, as that was also shared at the Pua Pump Station site visit. My question is not only with regards to
Keaukaha, but also more generally for the entire island as the entire island, the entire state, will be transitioning from cesspool to sewer.
In case it is helpful, I will include the questions I raised below:
In what ways has the County made progress to fulfill requirements of the Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) since the emergency proclamation has been
signed?
What is the County's communications plan to facilitate the requirements of the AOC and transitions from cesspools to sewer? Additionally, it was
shared at a Pua Pump Station site visit on April 11 that DEM would be posting a social media post on fats, oils, and grease (FOG), as well as looking
into a community meeting to be more transparent with the community that the Pua Pump Station is in operation. What is the status of these two
items?
What is DEM's (or the County's, more generally) financial strategy to secure funds needed to make necessary upgrades as mandated in the AOC?
At the 5/28 EMC meeting, Deputy Director Craig Kawaguchi provided his verbal commitment (timestamp - about 1 hour and 9 minutes on
the youtube recording) to work with me in scheduling a community meeting. May I please have your assistance in reflecting this in the
minutes?
