I am writing to underscore the need for a Multi-Purpose Community Center to be
built in the residential/agricultural community of Orchidland Estates.
The Orchidland residential community needs a central site to serve its needs as acommunity, creating a unifying and healthy environment for residents of all ages.
As planned, this Community Center will provide meeting space for civic groups, for
classes (for children, youth, seniors, and families), and for community celebrations. It will include a community kitchen, and also recreational areas for the Arts, and forsports.
Orchidland Neighbors has been working on this extremely worthwhile goal for
quite a few years, with fund-raising events, with grant-writing, and with community
development. My family and I have participated in some of these events, and haveseen the great effort and passion expended towards this goal, a goal that has wide-
spread support in the Orchidland Community.
The property where this Multi-Purpose Center will be located is at Orchidland
Drive and 36th Avenue in Lava Zone 3, so this Community Center will be a wiseinvestment for the future of the Orchidland Community.
Now that our roadways in the Puna District are becoming congested, it behooves us
to have centralized services, recreation, and community events close to where
people live.
