HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-10-03COUNTY OF HAWAII FIRE COMMISSION FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT September 10, 2003 Budget • Update on possible EMS budget cut. Meeting with Mayor Kim on August 19, 2003. Received copy of Brazier’s letter to Governor Lingle. • Finance Department workshop will be held September 18, 2003 to initiate process for submittal of budget for FY 2004/05. Alternative Funding and Grants • Hilo Shippers Wharf Trust: Submitted grant proposal for a mobile fire and safety education program ($56.475.00) Capital Improvement Projects • Puna Public Safety Complex Sites: Shipman Property-30 acres • Pahoa Fire Station: 7 acre site • Kalaoa Fire Station: Meeting with Roger Rule and Dan Bolton on September 4, 2003. • Fire Administration. Approval by Mayor to move to former Public Works office. Researching land sites. Promotions and Hiring • Firefighter Recruit Agility Test – September 13, 2003. Operations Division • KMC Closure Update: Meetings with the Volcano Village Board of Directors, Senator Daniel Inouye and Representative Ed Case. On September 3, 2003, we received formal response from Colonel David Anderson, US Army, approving our request for an extension to January 2005. • 93rd CST WMD training exercise held in Hilo during week of August 25-29, 2003. • Hurricane Jimena. • Leadership Development Presentations and Graduation Ceremonies held for 34 Captains and FEOs on August 20, 21 and 25. Thanks to Commissioners Kaoiwi and Maedo for their participation. Training Division • EMT Trainees/Clinical portion began August 27 to September 27 at Hilo Medical Center, Kona Community Hospital, and Central, Kawailani, Keaau, Pahoa and Kailua fire stations. • Second hire of FF Recruit class progress report. Volunteer Division • Volunteer Chief’s Meeting on October 25, 2003, at 1000 at Fern Forest station. Fire Auxiliary Services • Request to agendize Dispatch presentation for October 8th meeting. New Projects/Business • Start up of our FireRMS as of September 2, 2003. Installations of all stations to be completed by September 17, 2003. Implementation of “live” date on October 1, 2003. Working on trying to integrate police CAD with County Data Systems network. • Attended Meth Summit II on August 25, 2003. • State Fire Council quarterly meeting held on Maui on August 28/29. Public Relations • Results of Hawaii Island United Way/KTA Bag Brigades.
