FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT

Budget
• County FY 2003/04 budget passed first reading before full Council on 6-4-03.
Alternative Funding and Grants
• Deputy Chief attended meeting on 6-9-03 at Civil Defense, re: Office of Domestic
Preparedness FY 2004 assessment requirements.
Capital Improvement Projects
• 5-28-03 meeting at Four Seasons, re: Hualalai Project.
• Fire Admin & Support facility update.
• Kalaoa fire station update.
Promotions and Hiring
• Pre-employment physicals/examinations underway for second hire of recruits.
Operations Division
• Mandatory officers’ meetings held in May-June.
• Meeting with State Representative Cindy Evans on 5-28-03.
• Planning meetings ongoing, re: Fourth of July festivities.
Prevention Division
• Attended HACBO Conference at Volcano House on May 15-16.
• Requested assistance from Honolulu Fire Department for Prevention Bureau training.
• Working to develop partnerships with Building Division and Liquor.
Training Division
• State Fire Council meeting on Kauai on May 29-30.
Volunteer Division
EMS Division
Fire Auxiliary Services
• 2 new dispatchers in training.
New Projects/Business
• Waimea Middle School Standards in Action School Visit on 5-22-03.
• Hilo Church of God Teen Mania “Water Day” events on June 17-20 and July 15-21.
Public Relations
• Request to Fire Commission to agendize certificate of award presentation by Hawaii
National Guard to Capt. Darren Rosario before the July 9 fire commission meeting.
• 6-3-03: Hawaii Island United Way pacesetter kickoff meeting.
• Results of EMS 5K Run/Walk and Family Day at Coconut Island on 6-1-03.

• American Cancer Society Relay for Life (6-21/22 in Kona; 7-19/20 in Hilo)
