examinations were scheduled from June 25, 2018 to July 13,
2018.
• Fire Radio Dispatcher I –Realistic Job Orientation held on
June 29, 2018 at the Training Room. Dispatch visitation and
skills testing scheduled for July 2-6, 2018. Oral interview
scheduled for July 9-13 2018 upon completion of skills
testing.

Training:
1) Meeting with Hawaiian Homes concerning the Puukapu ranch lots brush fire
prevention in conjunction with Fire Wise.
2) 7/24- Multiple Bail Out/ Extrication evolutions with C-2 and Ski-2 involving all the
pilots. Co.14, BC2
Special Events and Services:
1) 7/4- Co.7 participated in the annual Kona Fourth of July parade
2) 7/4- Co.12 Held a Static display at the Sheraton Keauhou for a community
celebration.
3) 7/4- Co.9 provided support and EMS standby for the annual Fourth of July
Rodeo at the Parker Ranch Arena. Attended by 4,000+ spectators.
SPECIAL OPERATIONS:
Hazmat
1) Five HFD personnel attended a Pipeline Emergency response class that was
held at the HFD training center. This class was put on by HFD, The Gas
Company, and LEPC.
2) Two personnel will be attending the upcoming Hazmat Continuing Challenge
that will be held in September and is awaiting approval for their travel. Their
attendance and travel will be funded by the LEPC.
3) We continue to deal with the challenges of some outdated equipment and
getting our equipment (computers) repaired. This decreases our ability to
effectively respond to hazmat incidents. Looking to secure DHS funding in
the near future.
Rescue
1) We will be sending FRS Justin Neeson for dive rescue instructor training that
will be held on Oahu in September. This would help alleviate the workload
put upon FEO David Mahon as our sole dive instructor.
2) The Sayre Awards dinner is rapidly approaching that will be held on
September 1st. The Foundation have identified personnel who will be getting
awards and submitted our equipment need request.
Ocean Safety
1) Hawaii Beach Safety day held at Hapuna on July 31 with a proclamation from
Mayor Harry Kim. We also held an Ocean Safety demo for the beach patrons
that were present. The Drowning Prevention Ocean Safety conference will be
held on Kauai on August 2 and 3, 2018.
2) We completed our Jr. Lifeguard program and held our island championships
on July 14. We will be sending 20 Jr. Lifeguards to the state championships
that will be held on Kauai on August 4.
3) Olukai footwear and Kaenon sunglasses is making a donation to our
lifeguards and will be held informal presentation gatherings on Kona,
Hapuna, and Hilo in July. A resolution will be presented to the County
Council for approval.
• Support Services Division
TRAINING:
1) Temporarily moved Training Office from Warehouse to Haihai Station in
preparation for upcoming Recruit Class.
2) Continued preparation for 46th Recruit Class scheduled to begin August 16.
3) Recruit Training Officers Chas Taketa and Noelani McMahon began 40 hour
workweek on July 23rd in order to prepare for Recruit Class.
4) Took part in Chopper 2 familiarization and bailout Training with Company 14
personnel on July 23rd – including RTO’s Taketa and McMahon as part of
preparation for Recruit Training.
5) Developing Credentials for monthly drill reports and quarterly driver training
reports on Target Solutions in order to transition to electronic filing for
department training.
VOLUNTEER TRAINING:
1) Continue support in the EOC for Lava 2018
2) Received State Insurance cards from DOFAW. This is for all apparatus that is
on loan to HFD. Will disseminate to all companies.
3) Start solicitation and planning of Vol. Driver Training class. We are looking
to start in October 6, 13, 20, 27, 2018.
4) Continue driver audits.
5) Captain Ichimura attended Grand Opening of Station 9-B in Kanehoa on July
20, 2018.
EMS BUREAU:
1) Relocated Station 19 personnel on July 23, 2018 after earthquake on the
evening of July 22 which caused increased cracks in roadway on Highway
11. Moved M19 to Cooper Center during peak hours (0900-1800) and having
M19 go to Station 5 to split calls remainder of the shift. Engine 19 relocated to
Station 10 (Pāhoa) and will respond as Engine 10A. They will respond to all
fires and rotate ems calls in District 10.
2) MICT students have completed KCC final exams and passed. 6 students are
done and will be returning to their regular duty stations the second week of
August. 2 personnel will be completing extension of 4th rotation. All students
are scheduled to go to Oahu to do NREMT testing in sept. FMS II assessment
scheduled for august 23 2018. Two qualified FMS I personnel have turned in
applications.
3) Meetings and trainings. EMSAC was July 18th on Oahu HFD presented a Lava
update. Discussed the roll out of new standing orders. Tentative date is
sept. 2018. Also attended the aeromedical meeting, no new
issues. Continuing education for opioids. Scheduled training with PTA fire
for opioids.
4) Grant proposal was turned in by West Hawai‘i Community Health
Center. Wrote into grant a 150k FMS III west Hawai‘i position, if awarded
HFD to determine how monies best used to fill position. Contact person at
WHCHC is Jasmin Kiernan
5) Significant ems calls. Officer fatal shooting on July 17th. CISM team
activated, several HFD personnel affected and missed work because of
incident. Funeral services for Officer is on August 4th. HFD is coordinating
visitation and also standing up a stand by medic for service. Lava boat
incident on July 16th. 4 patients transported via HFD units, one with a femur
fracture. 13 total patients seen at HMC from tour boat. July 20th, second
officer shot, involved in the fatal shooting of suspect (from the fatal officer
shooting). Officer was flown via C2 to HMC in stable but serious
condition. Female from same incident was transported via medic to HMC in
stable condition for GSW to leg.
PREVENTION BUREAU:
1) The Fire Prevention Bureau conducted 74 inspections.
2) The Fire Prevention Bureau reviewed 114 construction plans.
3) The Fire Prevention Bureau investigated seven fires, four structures and three
wildland fires, the Arson K9 was dispatched to three structure fire.
4) We had one fireworks related call this 4th of July, last year where we had 9
fireworks related calls.
5) Prevention Bureau inspected 5 fireworks shows on the 4th of July.
AUXILIARY SERVICES:
1) Project: SCBA Replacement Grant
• Prevention is last bureau that needs fit testing and issue of pack, date
set in July 30-31 to deploy.
• Survey of mounting brackets to be conducted in August for
upgrade/changes/retrofit.
• Grant is being audited, will be submitting information with Melanio to
handle.
2) Project: SCBA Air Compressors (No progress this month)
• Working on a revision and update of Mako maintenance and
calibration information.
• Need to start a project to replace compressors.
3) Project: MSA to Motorola Bluetooth.
• Working to Add blue tooth capability to interface between MSA G1
and Motorola Radios.
• Dongles have arrived, will be establishing Bluetooth testing in the
month of August
4) Project: Wifi systems update and review
• Submitted proposal to save a little over $14k annually, by eliminating
excess unused wifi charges.
• Will be working to cancel/suspend/redirect these lines by the Mid-
August, waiting on meeting with IT.
5) Project: BC Vehicle outfiting
• Vehicle command cabinet for rear of vehicle (waiting on Ops BC’s to
design and submit to DPW).
• Secondary radio head installation in rear of vehicle (waiting on vehicle
command cabinet).
• Working on establishing hotspots in BC vehicles (Waiting on Project
Wifi, changed to issuing MIFI units).
6) Project: Auxiliary Sharepoint Site Redesign
• Working on a redesign of the Auxiliary Services Sharepoint site for
better usability.
Warehouse:
1) Task: End of year reports for finance
• Reports have been submitted to F2 and Finance.
2) Project: Repair Area
• Working on a redesign and cleanout of the repair area to facilitate
better turn around on equipment submitted for repair, estimated
completion in August
3) Project: Receiving and Outgoing area Redesign
• Initial area has been set up, computer and phones have been moved,
working on internet access
• Will be tying project WMS, and SPOS to this area.
4) Project: Radio Cache Area
• Will be deployed into the new receiving and outgoing area
• Seeking funding for four multi-unit (6) motorola radio chargers, cost
estimated at $4,000+
5) Project: Vertical Expansion
• Need funding to go vertical to 15’ mark in warehouse. Seeking grant
funding,
• Working on revised layout. Looking into 144” tall 24” deep shelving
systems.
6) Project: Electronic Warehouse Management System (WMS)
• Will be meeting with Transportation warehouse to view their UPC
scanner system for inventory tracking through Eden/Fresh.
• Will be touring DPW, HPD, warehouses to view their process to learn
and improve.
7) Project: Working on a single point ordering system (SPOS) with online
tracking of all orders within Trello
• Chrome stick arrived and has been tested, tracking site is live in
warehouse office,
• Project has started, initial forms are being designed

8) Tasks: E-Draulic Tools
• Received new E-Draulic Tool sets for Station 9 and 16 (8 to be funded

1) Project: 24 Hour Chairs
• Working on procurement through finance, funding set aside through
E911. Sent down to finance for RFP.

• Cutover September 18
• Working on a retraining before cutover set for end of August.
• Working on a training for Version 13 of ProQA, quote for training
submitted at $1,500.
3) Project: Xybix furniture:
• PO has been issued
• Final Quote Approved
• installation dates have been set at the end of August 27
4) Project FRD1 Recruitment:
• Candidates given tentative offers of employment, final decisions should
be complete by 7/26.
• start date of next class of FRD1s (date not set, looking to be on
September 1st)
5) Project: Policy and Procedure Manual
• Awaiting meeting between FASO, F2, and FCS.
Repairs:
1) Project: Honokaa Fire Station Termite treatment
• Date set for August 22nd, lodging at facility next door confirmed.
2) Warehouse washer/dryer project
• Electrical and plumbing request for installation of 220v line for dryer,
and plumbing for washer.
3) Task: Equipment Replacements
• Station 18: Stove Ordered, awaiting arrival at store
• Station 2: Air conditioner ordered from grainger, 2nd unit added
to Request for Bid.
• Station 9: Stove replaced
• Station 21: freezer replaced
• Station 2, 16, 17, 6, 20: ordering air conditioner replacements,
and new shelter in place AC systems for 6 and 20, submitted to finance
for RFPs
4) Task: Equipment Repairs
• Station 4: SCBA MSA G1, repaired, sent back
• Station 15: SCBA MSA G1, Pass device Failure, warranty issue
sent back to factory
• Station 4 SCBA MSA G1, Mic amp not working, warranty issue

sent out to stations.

• Station 21: Thermal Imager (ISG no longer in business, seeking
repairs through Scott, waiting on confirmation)
• Station 11: Screen door repaired at Alumside and sent back out to
station
• Station 21: Sunnyboy LCD screens, seeking vendor for repairs
• Station 21: CAT generator needs new Electronic Control Module,
PO issued by Finance working with Hawathorne to set up repair.
5) Task: Waimea Desk rebuild
• Work started, carpentry is fabricating parts.
6) Task: Trello Repair Board update
• Added all Captains and FEOs to the Trello board to allow them to
update status of repairs at their stations.
