Aloha,
We are proposing to install a wall sign for Barrio Burrito at the Kona Coast Shopping Center.
This sign is located within the Kailua Village Special District, where there is a maximum of 9 inch tall
letters and a maximum of 22 square foot signs. Barrio Burrito would like to have a 13.73 square foot
sign, which follows the guidelines, however, due to the layout of their logo, they are proposing to have
11.72 and 7.28 inch tall lettering. The logo consists of “BARRIO” in larger letters (13.73 inch tall) and
“BURRITO BAR” in smaller letters (7.28 inch tall).
If the logo was decreased in size to meet the 9 inch tall letter guideline, the lettering would be very hard
to read from the road and parking lot. This would make it difficult to identify and find. A neighboring
sign for Sally Beauty in the same shopping complex was approved in 2024 (PW.S2024-00001) and the
lettering was 12 inches tall. Therefore, we are proposing that this sign also has larger lettering to allow
better visibility of the sign.
