KITCHEN, CLASSROOM/WORKSHOP/EVENT SPACE, TWO SHARED OFFICE SPACES,
TWO PUBLIC RESTROOMS AND STORAGE.
APPLICANT'S REQUEST
■ THE COMMUNITY CERTIFIED KITCHEN WILL INCLUDE COOKING,
PACKAGING/LABELING, AND VALUE-ADDED PROCESSING AREAS AND IS
ANTICIPATED TO OPERATE 7 DAYS A WEEK FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 7:00 P.M. AND w
ACCOMMODATE UP TO 12 PEOPLE AT A TIME.

REASONS FOR THE REQUEST
■ THE HAWAIIAN ACRES COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ( HACA) , ESTABLISHED IN
1961 , HAS LONG SUPPORTED RESIDENTS OF THE HAWAIIAN ACRES SUBDIVISION w
THROUGH FOOD DISTRIBUTION, SOCIAL SERVICES, AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
AFTER A 2023 FIRE DESTROYED THE COMMUNITY CENTER, THESE EFFORTS WERE

FORCED INTO A SMALLER SPACE, LIMITING OUTREACH AND EMERGENCY
PREPAREDNESS. c)
■ TO RESTORE AND EXPAND SERVICES, HACA IS SEEKING APPROVAL TO BUILD A z

NEW MULTI-USE COMMUNITY FACILITY WITH A CERTIFIED COMMERCIAL KITCHEN, U
SUPPORTED BY COUNTY GRANT FUNDING AND PUNA MAKAUKAU, A NONPROFIT J
SPONSOR. THE NEW FACILITY WILL PROVIDE A SAFE, PERMANENT SPACE FOR 0-
FOOD PREPARATION AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION, HELPING FAMILIES Q
FACING ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AND STRENGTHENING DISASTER READINESS AS PART
OF THE ISLAND-WIDE RESILIENCE HUB NETWORK.
ESTIMATED PROJECT COST AND TIMEFRAME
■ THE ESTIMATED COST OF THE PROJECT IS $597,075 WHICH WILL BE PAID
THROUGH GRANT FUNDS FROM THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I AND PRIVATE FUNDING w
