Please Oppose these SMA PERMITS. Big Island's shoreline is already seriously
overcrowded, and the runoff that happend keeps adding more pollution to the ocean.
You keep approving more and more developments without considering island resources,
infrastructure, and the safety and well-being of the shoreline, because if you did, you wouldn't
keep approving everything that comes up.
This Petition has MANY News articles that prove the island's Resources are hurting. Help Big
Island Resources and Infrastructure Stay Safe For ALL Who Live Here and Visit - United
States • Change.org https://share.google/cSxIAIAgNQwQJhCgK has 663 signatures asking
you to STOP Approving more developments and START Focusing on the fact that the island's
resources are seriously overtaxed today, and there are droughts all over the island.
When will you all start taking island resources, infrastructure and the safety of Big Island's
shoreline more seriously?
You mention at other meetings that the island needs more developing, why can't you see that
you keep approving more and more without fully understanding what it is going to do to the
future of the island when the island has water issues, rubbish issues, infrastructure issues, and
all your approvals will continue to add to these issues NOT help them.
There are plenty of jobs, so many jobs on island there are Help Wanted signs.
Did you see you see this article that just came out last month
https://www.thegardenisland. com/2025/08/19/hawaii-news/drought-conditions-called-crisis-
for-some-hawaii-island-areas/ ? How do you plan on having water for all the developments
you have already approved when there are years worth of developments that you have
approved that haven't started construction yet?
Please, STOP APPROVING even MORE Developments when the island is having issues with
what is already here!
Please, start taking island resources, shoreline run-off, infrastructure more seriously, and
STOP approving even more developments.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Melendez
