Comm 25-031
Aloha e PONC Commission Members,
My name is Tanner Ayau, and I am writing to express my full support for Kupa
`Aina o Keauhou to continue as the steward of Keauhou Bay.
As a Native Hawaiian whose family visits the bay for fishing, paddling, and
connecting with the land and kai that sustain us, I have seen firsthand the
care and cultural responsibility that Kupa `Aina brings to this place. Their
team works with humility and purpose, guided by Native Hawaiian leadership
and values that respect both the ancestors and the generations to come.
Kupa `Aina's stewardship reflects more than maintenance — it's cultural
restoration. Their efforts to protect native plants, preserve archaeological
features, and teach community members about traditional practices create
an environment that honors the mana of Keauhou.
Other groups, such as the Keauhou Canoe Club, already have dedicated
facilities and access through Kamehameha Schools. Kupa `Aina's work fills a
different, deeply important role — one centered on inclusion, cultural
perpetuation, and healing of the land itself.
Please continue to support Native-led, community-based stewardship of
Keauhou Bay. Kupa `Aina o Keauhou has earned that responsibility through
years of hard, grounded work.
Mahalo for your time and for the kuleana you carry in this decision.
With aloha,
Tanner Ayau
