Subject:Bad timing for raises
I think the Salary Commission needs to'read the room.'This is absolutely the worst timing to pitch any
raises for government officials. People are struggling with hunger in Hawaii County right now;federal
workers are having to tap into their savings,and everyone who has had some sort of effect with this
government shutdown is not going to understand your insistence that you are merely following a salary
schedule. It's best if you delay action on this matter unless or until the political climate changes.
We do not know if, but should plan for when, Hawaii County may budget for bread lines.This
administration could force us into that predicament. Raises are not wise right now. Not at all.
