FIRE COMMISSION <br />(2/23/26) <br />Purpose: Appoints the Fire Chief. Reviews the budget prepared by the Fire Chief <br />and makes recommendations to the Mayor, Managing Director, and <br />Council. Reviews the Fire Department's operations for the purpose of <br />recommending improvements. Reviews personnel actions within the <br />department for conformance with policies. Hears citizen complaints <br />concerning the department or personnel and makes recommendations <br />about corrective actions. <br />Authority: County Charter, Section 7-4.5. <br />Appointment: Appointed by Mayor and confirmed by Council. Five-year staggered terms. <br />Full Membership: Nine Members. <br />Representation: One member from each council district. <br />Requirements: No more than five shall belong officially to the same political party. <br />Meetings: Fourth Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m., unless otherwise specified by <br />the Commission, alternating between Hilo and Kona. <br />Financial Disclosure: Members must file a Financial Disclosure as required by the Hawaii <br />County Code. <br />Reappointment: No member shall be appointed for a second term for at least two years <br />following the expiration of the term unless the appointment was for two <br />years or less. <br />Qualities: Respected by the community as being community -minded and oriented. <br />Able to focus on the community's needs as a whole without catering to <br />special or self -interests. <br />Current Members: District 1, Derwin Ignacio, term ends 12/31 /30 <br />District 2, Carlene Wolf, term ends 12/31 /26 <br />District 3, Gerald Kosaki, term ends 12/31 /27 <br />District 4, Vacant, term ends 12/31 /28 <br />District 5, Wayne Perrin, term ends 12/31 /27 <br />District 6, Rick Porter, term ends 12/31 /28 <br />District 7, Rollin Rabara, term ends 12/31 /30 <br />District 8, Brian Cushnie, term ends 12/31 /29 <br />District 9, Les Hanano, term ends 12/31 /29 <br />Contact Person: Charisse Correa, Secretary.
