To consider charges brought against officers of the Hawaii County Police Department where
personal matters affecting privacy will be considered and a closed meeting is requested by
individuals involved and to consult with Corporation Counsel on questions and issues pertaining to
the commission's powers, duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities.

December 21, 2001, regular and executive sessions.

COMMUNICATIONS
• Minutes of the Maui Police Commission of December 19, 2001.
• Corresp. 01, Salary Commission's notice of next meeting scheduled for January 18.
• Corresp. 02, John R. DeSa, Jr.'s, request for reconsideration of his complaint HPC 01 -40 in
which investigation was declined because the complaint was received more than 60 days from
the date of the incident.
• Corresp. 03, copy of letter to Chief Correa from Anita Mathew regarding her call to 911 of
noises in her garage area in the early morning hours, and no one responded. She requests
that the commission follow -up with the Chief.

COMPLAINTS AND INVESTIGATIONS
• Status Report of Complaints Referred to Chief Correa.
• Police Department's Annual Misconduct Report.
• HPC 01 -42: Complainant alleged that an officer used profanity and threatened to beat him if
he talked to his sergeant again. (continued from previous meeting)
• HPC 01 -43: Complainant alleged that she placed three calls to 911 requesting assistance, and
no one responded. Subsequently she was assaulted. She alleged that if the police had done
their duty, this would not have happened. (continued from previous meeting)
• HPC 01 -52: Complainant alleged that a hotel manager and the police conspired to falsify
police records, conceal and cover -up something illegal that the manager did, and tampered
with his freedom.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The next monthly meeting is scheduled for February 22, 2002, at Keauhou Beach Resort, Kona.
