To consider discipline and charges against officers or employees of the Hawaii County Police Department
where consideration of matters affecting privacy will be involved and a closed session is requested, and
to consult with Corporation Counsel on questions and issues pertaining to the commission's powers,
duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities. (Pursuant to HRS 92 -5 (2) and Hawai'i County Charter
Section 13 -20 (b).

• Corresp. 04, Hawaii Fire Commission's announcement of selection of Fire Chief Darryl J. Oliveira.
• Corresp. 05, from Chief Correa informing of the 2002 -03 budget review meeting on March 25.
• Corresp. 06, copy of letter to Chief Correa from Leo Christian of Domino's Pizza requesting an
investigation into the police department's response to an armed robbery at Domino's Pizza.
• Corresp. 07, from SHOPO, requesting that the commission rescind and withdraw its report and
findings in Complaint HPC 00 -42.
• Corresp. 08, from Del Pranke expressing concern over the police department's investigations into the
deaths of Carl Otis Johnson, Fausto Mendoza, Kamekona Cummings, wife of Kenneth Mathison,
Fred Shilzony, and a young mother during a high -speed chase.
• Corresp. 09, from Del Pranke expressing concern over the venue of the police commission meeting
on February 22, and that there would be more people than the room would allow.

Status of the Annual State of Hawai'i Police Commissioners' Conference May 9 -10, 2002.
NEW BUSINESS
• Status report of past budgets and its effects on the police department.
Complaint HPC 01 -51: Complainant Craig 1 Carvalho alleged that a police officer refused to take his
report, the police always hang up on him, and they threatened to put him in jail.
Compliant HPC 02 -01: Complainant Nathan Shafer alleged that the police were called following an
incident at a bar in Hilo. They threw him against his car and he hurt his arm.
EXECUTIVE SESSSION

• Complaint HPC 02 -02: Complainant alleged that during a traffic stop in Kona, an officer called him
stupid in front of his kids and threw the citation at him.
• Correspondence 07, request by SHOPO to rescind and withdraw the commission's report and findings
in Complaint HPC 00 -42.
• Status report of complaints referred to Chief Correa.
