COMMUNICATIONS
• Correspondence 05 -31, invitation to the annual Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officials
Association (HSLEOA) conference, September 7 -9, 2005, which is being hosted by the
Maui Police Department.

• Correspondence 05 -32, from Police Chief Mahuna, expressing his appreciation to Vice
Chair Lassiter for her attendance and words of encouragement at the opening
ceremonies of Police Week on May 16, 2005.
• Correspondence 05 -33, from Chairman Michael Ching of the Kauai Police Commission,
thanking the commission for attending the annual State of Hawaii Police Commission
Conference on Kauai May 12 -13, 2005.

NEW BUSINESS
• Required notification to complainant of the commission's findings in an investigation.
At the previous meeting, Commissioner Politano Steckel requested that they provide
more information to the complainant than what is currently given.
• Preparation for Police Chief Mahuna's semi - annual evaluation and review of his goals
which will be done in July.

EXECUTIVE SESSION (closed to the public)
To consider discipline and charges against officers or employees of the Hawaii County
Police Department where consideration of matters affecting privacy would be involved and
a closed session is requested and to consult with Corporation Counsel on questions and
issues pertaining to the commission's powers, duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities
pursuant to HRS 92 -5 (2) and Hawaii County Charter Section 13 -20 (b).

Investigation and Deliberation of Complaints.
Complaint HPC 05 -03: Complainant' motorbike was stolen. He alleged that he doesn't
know what's going on with the investigation.
Complaint HPC 05 -09: Complainant was involved in a vehicle accident. She alleged
that the officer should have cited the other driver.
Complaint HPC 05 -10: Complainant complained about the manner in which the officer
spoke to him when responding to a noise complaint.
Complaint HPC 05 -11: Complainant make a noise complaint against her neighbor.
She alleged that the responding officer did not ask her neighbor to turn down the
music. She also complained about the manner in which the officer spoke to her.
