RE: Support for PONC Nomination Manamanas Shoreline (Hakalau)
Aloha Chair and Members of the PONC Commission,
I am writing in strong support of the PONC nomination for the Manamanas shoreline in
Hakalau.
The proposed acquisition of approximately one-half mile of shoreline will help preserve long-
areas is critical to maintaining traditional and subsistence fishing practices, strengthening
community connections, and ensuring that our coastal resources remain publicly accessible and
responsibly managed.
Community-led stewardship efforts associated with this nomination demonstrate a clear
commitment to caring for the shoreline and maintaining safe, respectful access. Protecting this
stretch of coastline through the PONC process represents a meaningful investment in
environmental preservation, cultural continuity, and public benefit.
