Testimony in Support: Proposed County purchase of Hakalauiki through
PONC.
I write this in support of the application to purchase the shoreline easement of
Hakalauiki (TMK 2-9-002:001) through the PONC process.
the
federal
access issues on the Hamakua coast were paramount, and they continue to
be so. While we lack catch data, shoreline and nearshore catch may well be
substantial. It is clearly important for food security, particularly for low-
income families. It is their “icebox”. I suggest that continued community
access is critical for community well-being, and that denial of access through
requires managed access. There are community groups in Hamakua who are
