HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-04-20 Karen & Mark Johnson Opposition Testimony Subject: Development of Site M Leeward Planning Commission From: Karen Johnson To: Planning LPC Testimony Date: Monday, April 20, 2026 4:25:49 PM Mark Johnson and I are owners of Unit 315 at the Villages at Mauna Lani. We are opposed to this development for the following reasons; traffic, sewage, water, and road safety at Kaniku Drive as well and the Queen K highway. The influx of traffic on Mauna Lani Drive will also affect property values in the immediate area. Environmental tests were done a long time ago and no longer apply to current times. We've been told by the MLRA to reduce our water consumption by 25%; a strong indication that the lack of water is already an issue here. Also, our landfill is overused. The Resort area itself is overcrowded. There is no room at the Mauna Lani Beach area for additional guests. Parking is limited, often filled to capacity to the point people have to be turned away. Our restaurants at most times cannot accommodate the amount of people already here let alone adding to that situation. Reservations at many restaurants are three weeks out. Then, we have the addition of corporate events that take place here which considerable foot and vehicle traffic. We strongly oppose your moving forward with the development of Site M.
