Aloha!
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the special permit that is currently trying to be obtained by Teppy
Mountain LLC for the purpose of using agricultural land for a festival.
Past behavior is a strong indicator of future issues, and we see that in this instance. Time and again, wealthy people
have demonstrated an unwillingness to abide by rules, especially those enforced by monetary means. His
unwillingness to pay $34,000 in fines despite having the funds says A LOT. The fact that he’s done it repeatedly
says even more. How many times are we going to bend the rules for these people just because they have money? We
need more than just “economic gain,” for example, we need SECURE food sources. If you give him this permit, he
learns that he can do whatever he wants so long as his check book is open. Then we’ll have to deal with an influx of
visitors who have the same mentality, and that’s already an issue. Meanwhile, what does the community gain?
Nothing but more headache and less food security. We’re on an ISLAND folks; every acre counts! Our kupuna
knew this and that’s how they managed to keep this island pristine for our use. They didn’t need a music festival that
just makes one rich guy even richer while refusing to pay into the system that makes it possible. We need people
who want to work with the agricultural guidelines, not against it. We need pono people if this island is going to
continue existing in a way that’s remotely recognizable to us. He is not that.
I strongly oppose this permit. You can do better than this.
Sincerely,
Heather Cacoulidis
