GRAVE PLOTS: All plots are assigned on a “as needed” basis. No reservations can be made for future plots. Reservations made prior to 1998 at Alae Cemetery will be honored. All plots are assigned at the discretion of Park Maintenance staƯ. Requests for preferences will not be taken. PAYMENTS: Payments will not be taken until a burial application is submitted. A death certificate may be required. Payment must be made before plot is assigned. A cashier’s check made out to “County Director of Finance” or cash is accepted. GRAVE LABOR: – (digging, cement work, headstone/monument installation): The County does not provide grave labor. The family can do their own labor or hire a professional. If they are providing their own labor, a Release of Claims form must be signed by all participating in the labor, including minors. The form must be received by the County prior to work starting. Professional grave laborers hired must have a Certificate of Insurance naming the County of Hawaii as additional insured – see Certificate of Insurance Reference Sheet 3.18.2026. PLOT MAINTENANCE: Park cemetery staƯ maintain the grounds and walkways. It is the responsibility of the family/representative of decedent to maintain within the plot borders. This includes headstone maintenance, filling in sinking plots or holes, weeding, cleaning, etc. Potted plants higher than two feet are not allowed. No plants may be planted on the grave. The point of contact on the burial application will keep the County updated if their mailing address or phone number changes.
