Re: Letter of Support — Waikoloa Green (Change of Zone and Special Use Applications)
Dear Chairman Au and Members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
We are Robert and Joyce Aton, condominium owners at the Paniolo Greens at Waikoloa. We
write this letter to express our strong support for the Waikoloa Green Change of Zone and
Special Use Application. We urge the Commission to approve it.
We are very concerned about the cost of housing for our grandchildren and great-grandchild.
We know they struggle with unaffordable rental rates in Waikoloa and Waimea areas, and we
are doing our best to help them by offering affordable rent to live in our condo for one of our
grandchildren. We are also very concerned about the rising cost of fuel and energy happening
currently.
We hope our granddaughter and great granddaughter can benefit from Waikoloa Green’s real
solution of four hundred attainable rental homes, built within a commuting distance to their
place of work and school. That is not a small thing, it is a perfect solution for solving their
struggle. We are thankful for the leadership of Waikoloa Green to come up with ways for the
community of Waikoloa and Waimea community work force to thrive.
We are also intrigued by Waikoloa Green’s idea of family farm lots and food hub that will give
local families a path to grow food and build a livelihood on land that has sat idle for too long.
We know our grandchildren are willing to work to make this opportunity work for them. They
are not afraid to work the land.
We urge the Commission to approve Waikoloa Green’s application and needed zone change.
Mahalo for your time and for your service to our community.
With Aloha,
Joyce and Robert Aton
