This project includes a food hub, approximately 400 residential units, 250 one-acre agricultural lots, and integrated infrastructure designed to support long-term community growth and sustainability. I currently operate Hawaiʻi Livestock Management, a nonprofit organization focused on land stewardship, invasive species management, wildfire mitigation, and agricultural education. I am also involved in animal sanctuary operations through Tasha Ohana Animal Sanctuary as its current owner and caretaker, helping continue the vision established by its founder. In addition, I am the founder of Hawaiʻi Oyster Company, an aquaculture business that will contribute to local food production and economic development. These experiences have provided me with firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture, food security, and responsible land use throughout Hawaiʻi. As with any project of this scale, there will naturally be differing opinions regarding residential density and development. However, it is important to recognize that developments have occurred throughout this region in the past without incorporating the level of agricultural infrastructure and community investment proposed here. What sets this project apart is its commitment to supporting local food systems through the inclusion of a dedicated food hub and agricultural lots. These components create opportunities for farmers, ranchers, aquaculture operators, and agricultural entrepreneurs to expand local food production while improving access to fresh, locally grown products. In my view, these benefits extend far beyond housing alone and help build a more resilient and self-sustaining community. From my experience working in agriculture, aquaculture, nonprofit land management, and animal welfare, I see strong alignment between this project and Hawaiʻi’s growing need for food security, economic diversification, environmental stewardship, and productive agricultural land. The integration of agriculture into the development creates meaningful opportunities for local businesses and nonprofit organizations to participate in and contribute to the region’s long-term success. Additionally, projects of this nature create opportunities for local contractors, tradespeople, suppliers, and service providers, helping ensure that economic benefits remain within the community and support local families and businesses. I believe this project should be evaluated based on its complete vision and long-term impact. When considering its agricultural components, food hub infrastructure, economic opportunities, and community benefits, I believe it represents a positive investment in the future of West Hawaiʻi. For these reasons, I respectfully support the advancement of this project and encourage its favorable consideration. Sincerely, Alex Lancaster Founder, Hawaiʻi Oyster Company LLC Program Director, Hawaiʻi Livestock Management Owner and Operator, Tasha Ohana Animal Sanctuary
