HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-06-19 Heidi Christman Testimony From: Heidi Christman To: Planning LPC Testimony Subject: Concerning bill 147 Date: Friday, June 19, 2026 8:53:05 PM I run a hosted Airbnb from my condo on Palani rd. When I purchased the condo in Feb the original owner had a STVR permit but I was unsure if I was going to do the rental or not. I called the county asking about transferring it and was told that a “hosted” one does not need it. I registered for the GET and TAT and will be submitting my taxes quarterly starting next month. I work 50+ hours a week at a good paying job but only this extra income has allowed me to pay my bills. I am also frugal and still am needing this extra income. When I left Florida to move here in February, I was turning my house into a rental there and it is still not leased out. On top of that, my other rental (in Florida) had its tenants leave unexpectedly and break the lease. So currently I have 2 vacant houses in Florida I am trying to rent out plus the loans and HOA for my condo in Kailua Kona, HI. As I said this is the only way I am able to pay my bills. (Even if I tried to sell one of the other houses, things take time). I am concerned and confused a little about the bill. Does it affect hosted STVR if my area was already zoned and allows STVR? I believe I just have to pay the new fee (and maybe register). How do I go about doing this? I just wanted to voice my concerns about the need this is fulfilling for me and whether or not I will still be able to operate and how to register/pay the fee.
