I would like to share a few thoughts on the new regulations being talked about. I started my vacation rental business many years ago and set it in motion to support myself, a single woman who was in my 60's at the time. It has been successful and rewarding with over 100 5 start reviews. I enjoy everything about it and its been my only income for over 15 years. I am fine with regulations but it has been a real roller coaster for me with all the indecision of whether vacation rentals will be allowed on ag land. Where I live is a desert with the most expensive water on the island so its a bit difficult to think of it a "ag" land. I live on the property full time with my vacation rental, which is how I had planned to support myself when I built this home. I feel it makes sense to allow those of us that have paid taxes, made this our lively hood and never had one complaint to be grandfathered in. I am fine with regulation but this process has been incredibly confusing, uncertain, and had the feelings of a total lack of appreciation as to how we have contributed to the community in positive ways. It feels more punitive with the fines etc they are trying to put in place. I have many repeat guests that have expressed they will not come to the island if they are forced into condos and resorts. What many of us offer is a COMPLETELY different experience which many guests appreciate. One is not better than the other-just different and we have obviously shown this over the years. I would ask the council to clarify on whether limiting accommodations on Ag land to a hosts primary residence is required by State law, or if this is a policy choice within this bill? I am hoping that you can see how many of us rely on this industry for our income and ability to be be able to stay in our homes. Thank you for your consideration, Kalia
