Aloha,
My name is Malis Hodak, and I respectfully submit testimony in opposition to bill 147.
I work in a cleaning industry, and my husband is retired. We own a small vacation rental that helps support our family and provides important supplemental income.
My cleaning business provides services for vacation rentals and other local properties. The work generated by small vacation rentals helps support my business, my family and the people
who depend on these jobs. Every reservation creates work for cleaners, landscapers, maintenance workers and other local service providers.
We also have a child attending college, and the income from our vacation rental, my cleaning job, helps us cover housing and other expenses.
Our vacation rental is a small, family-owned property that we personally maintain and manage. We take pride in keeping it clean, welcoming and respectful of our neighbors and
community.
The rising cost of living in Hawaii has made it increasingly difficult for local families to make ends meet. The income from our vacation rental helps us pay property taxes, utilities,
maintenance costs and other household expenses. Without this income, it would be much harder for us to remain financially secure and continue supporting our child's education.
Visitors who stay at our rental also support local businesses, including restaurants, shops,
farmers, tour operators, and other small businesses in our community.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge you to vote NO on Bill 147.
Sincerely, Malis Hodak
