RE: OPPOSITION to Bill 147
Aloha Chair, Vice Chair, and Committee Members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
My name is Elizabeth Tomaszewski, and I am an owner-operator of a humble, hosted STVR on
the east side of the Hawai`i for several years. Mahalo for the opportunity to provide testimony
IN OPPOSITION to Bill 147.
The “simple registration” we were promised many months ago has yet to unveil itself.
September 1st is the latest “go” date. We still don’t have a hint of what this registration will
require of local business owners who have been hosting legally and responsibly for years.
Several of us wonder if we will even be allowed to continue our businesses, leaving us
wringing our hands and stretching our budgets.
Trust begins with transparency. Bill 147 is a Trojan Horse built on overreach, overreaction, and
groundless assumptions. It pushes restrictions and regulations without evidentiary proof
standing in direct opposition to the expressed will of the people of Hawai'i County. It ignores
the facts detailed in the economic study which promoted the viability and importance of
continuing with a robust and legitimate STVR economy in our county.
Bill 147 is misleading and confusing. It must be stopped. Your opposition to Bill 147 is
necessary and urgent. I urge you to leave it on the table.
Please do not move this bill forward.
