Aloha!
We would like to communicate our support for Heather Korotie and Paul Byron’s special
permit application for
a 5-bedroom bed and breakfast at 82-5680 Kahau Place, Captain Cook, HI 96704.
We have been Heather and Paul’s direct residentials neighbors since 2018 sharing a
lengthy property line
and homes in near proximity to each other. With this, we have also been neighbors to the
STVR that Heather
has been operating since. As all of us know, STVR operations create their own set of
issues that come with
vacationers rotating through rental units while commonly unaware of the neighborhoods
they visit or the problems
they may create. In any neighborhood we have lived in, we find these issues to be
parking related, mistaken
identity (tourists entering the wrong property), and most grievously noise, especially
noise during sleeping hours.
Since our neighborly beginnings, Heather has been very communicative and unfailing in
enforcing STVR rules
set forth by the county and by herself. In the few instances, were we approached her
with a concern, it was taken
serious, taken care of and ensured to stay a non-issue. We would not hesitate to call
Heather’s operation a model of how STVRs
should and can be operated to keep our island’s neighborhoods what they are supposed
to be, neighborly, safe, and agreeable.
With a long experience of Heather’s impeccable STVR operations, as far as the welfare
of the neighborhood is concerned,
we wholeheartedly support this special permit application. We would like to add that
albeit we are very good neighbors,
we don’t have a close personal friendship with Heather and Paul and thus are less
biased expressing our support.
We sincerely hope this helps along the decision-making progress for this permit.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly for questions.
Mahalo Nui,
Kirsti and Steve Cook
