Applicants: Ryan and Leah Herbert - Proposed Bed and Breakfast Establishment

Aloha Commissioners,
I am writing as a nearby resident and neighbor of Leah and Ryan Herbert to express my
support for their Special Permit application to operate a small bed and breakfast at their
property located at 75-450 Nani Kailua Drive.
As someone who lives in Kailua View Estates since 2009, I believe the proposed bed and
breakfast is appropriate for the area and will be compatible with the existing rural and
residential character of our community.
The Herberts live on the property and will personally manage the bed and breakfast,
which gives me confidence that it will be operated responsibly and with consideration
for the surrounding neighbors.
They also grow a lot of fruit on their property which they share with the neighbors.
In my opinion, a small, owner-operated bed and breakfast such as this can fit well within
that setting without negatively affecting neighboring properties or changing the character
of the area.
As a nearby neighbor, I do not anticipate that the proposed use will create unreasonable
noise, traffic, parking, or other impacts. I am comfortable having this bed and breakfast
operate in our neighborhood and believe Leah and Ryan will be thoughtful and
responsible operators.
For these reasons, I respectfully ask the Leeward Planning Commission to approve their
Special Permit application.
