Dear Chair Au and Members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
I am writing as a Kona resident and parent of two children who participate in the Kona Aerials Gymnastics program
to express my strong support for the Special Use Permit application (Application #PL-SPP-2026-000128E) for the
gymnastics facility located at 75-438 Hualālai Road, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.
Kona Aerials Gymnastics is an incredible asset to our West Hawaiʻi community. It provides a safe, structured
environment where children can grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through gymnastics, our keiki develop
strength, confidence, discipline, perseverance, and teamwork—qualities that extend far beyond the gym and
positively impact every area of their lives.
The coaching staff goes above and beyond to develop not only skilled athletes but also young people of strong
character and integrity. They genuinely invest in the children they serve, encouraging responsibility, resilience,
respect, and a strong work ethic.
The facility’s location at 75-438 Hualālai Road is well suited for this use. It offers the space and specialized
equipment necessary for gymnastics while remaining conveniently accessible to families throughout the Kona area.
Having a dedicated gymnastics facility is a valuable resource that serves a broad segment of our community and fills
an important need for youth recreation and athletic development. It is routinely praised by other gymnastics
programs in the state as one of the best, if not the very best, gymnastics facilities in Hawai’i. And it is a true source
of pride for our local gymnasts to be able to compete in their home gym against teams from the neighbor islands,
including the larger programs from Oahu.
Approving this Special Use Permit will allow Kona Aerials Gymnastics to continue providing an essential service
that benefits countless local families. I respectfully urge the Leeward Planning Commission to approve Application
#PL-SPP-2026-000128E and support the continued operation of this outstanding community resource.
