Letter of Support for Special Use Permit Application #PL-SPP-2026-000128EKona Aerials Gymnastics
To: Leeward Planning CommissionChair Dean Au
Dear Chair Au and Members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
I am writing as a Kona resident and parent of children who participate in the Kona AerialsGymnastics program to express my strong support for the Special Use Permit application(Application #PL-SPP-2026-000128E) for the gymnastics facility located at 75-438 HualālaiRoad, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.
Below, I have attached a copy of a letter my 10-year-old daughter wrote in support of KonaAerials. It is difficult to fully express the positive impact this gym has had not only on herlife, but on our entire family. Our daughter has faced a number of struggles and challenges, and it was not until she discovered her passion for gymnastics at Kona Aerials that we trulybegan to see her thrive. Through this gym and the community surrounding it, she has growntremendously in strength, confidence, grace, and perseverance, and, most importantly, shehas found a place that brings her genuine happiness and a sense of belonging. Kona Aerialshas become much more than a place for her to practice gymnastics; it has been an incrediblymeaningful and positive influence in her life, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunityit has given her to grow.
Kona Aerials Gymnastics is an incredible asset to our West Hawaiʻi community. It providesa safe, structured environment where children can grow physically, mentally, andemotionally. Through gymnastics, our keiki develop strength, confidence, discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, all qualities that extend far beyond the gym and positivelyimpact every area of their lives.
The coaching staff goes above and beyond to develop not only skilled athletes but alsoyoung people of strong character and integrity. They genuinely invest in the children theyserve, encouraging responsibility, resilience, respect, and a strong work ethic. Programs likethis provide meaningful extracurricular opportunities that help keep our youth active, engaged, and connected to a positive community.
The facility’s location at 75-438 Hualālai Road is well suited for this use. It offers the spaceand specialized equipment necessary for gymnastics while remaining conveniently accessibleto families throughout the Kona area. Having a dedicated gymnastics facility is a valuableresource that serves a broad segment of our community and fills an important need foryouth recreation and athletic development.
Approving this Special Use Permit will allow Kona Aerials Gymnastics to continueproviding an essential service that benefits countless local families. I respectfully urge theLeeward Planning Commission to approve Application #PL-SPP-2026-000128E and support
the continued operation of this outstanding community resource.
Thank you for your time, your service to our community, and your thoughtful considerationof this application.
Sincerely,Helena Weiss
