Aloha Chair Au and Members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
I am writing as a Hawaii County resident and parent to express my strong support for the
Special Use Permit application (Application #PL-SPP-2026-000128E) for Kona Aerials Gymnastics at 75-438 Hualālai Road, Kailua-
Kona, HI 96740.
My seven year old daughter is just beginning her competitive gymnastics program with her first competitive meet scheduled to be on September 27th at Kona Aerials.
She started gymnastics at 4 years old and I have personally seen how much this program is contributing to her growth—not only as an athlete, but as a very young female. Through
gymnastics, she has developed confidence, discipline, perseverance, strength of character, and a greater
understanding of her own value and capabilities.
She also has amazing role models in the older gymnasts and coaches. The coaches invest in
the whole child and encourage young women to become strong, capable, and confident individuals. Kona Aerials is a
necessity for our community. Having a place where young women can develop physically while also being
surrounded by coaches and teammates who encourage, challenge, and pour into their character is incredibly valuable. The
lessons they learn will extend well beyond the gym and into their education, future careers, relationships, and the broader community.
The facility at 75-438 Hualālai Road provides an important and specialized space for this
program, allowing local athletes to train safely and consistently while giving families throughout West Hawaiʻi access to
meaningful youth athletics and development. There is nowhere else like this on island!
I respectfully ask the Leeward Planning Commission to approve Application #PL-SPP-2026-
000128E and allow Kona Aerials Gymnastics to continue serving the children and families of our community.
Thank you for your time, your service, and your thoughtful consideration of this application. I
hope you will recognize the tremendous value Kona Aerials brings to the young people of Hawaiʻi and support its
continued operation.
