Aloha,
It is my understanding the Windward planning commission will be deciding upon zoning
changes that would block data centers from being built on Hawaii island. The only concern I have is these changes may cause
unintended consequences. This zoning change should focus on hyperscale artificial intelligence data centers, which
consume lots of water and electricity. If the zoning change includes all data centers, it will negatively impact this island
economically and internet access wise. Traditional data centers provide co-location and Internet content caching. These facilities use
less resources than a hyperscale AI data center.
Sincerely,
Aaron Stene
