Aloha Chair Lewis and members of the Board of Appeals, and Planning Director Darrow,
I live in Papaikou, right up the road of the cell tower under construction, and I support Patrick
Ferreira's appeal of this Verizon telecommunications tower planned on Olson Trust land. Its
not the tower, it's the placement.
Please order a pause on all preparations and work for the tower.
Please also hold a public meeting to thoroughly review the decision on the tower, and to give
the public a fair chance to have their concerns and questions addressed
The community was kept in the dark and had no chance to weigh in before construction began.
The tower, six stories tall, would be less than 30 feet from the nearest home. Its lights and
generator may impact residents nearby. There is no way to know how safety requirements,
environmental and historic issues, or alternative locations were considered, since no records
are readily available to the public. Property values will be impacted.
We deserve to have a say in our own community's future.
