Dear Chair Daniele and Members of the Windward Planning Commission:
Subject: Request for Postponement of Hearing scheduled for October 1, 2026 regarding
Special Management Area Use Permit Application (PL-SMA-2026-000097)
Applicant: BHG Aloha LLC dba Wild Ginger Hotel
Tax Map Key(s): (3) 2-6-002:008 and :012, Puʻuʻeo, South Hilo, Hawaiʻi
Though this letter, the Applicant wishes to request that the Windward Planning
Commission postpone the hearing on the above-described application originally scheduled
before you on October 1, 2026 to the Commission’s next scheduled meeting on Wednesday,
November 4, 2026.
The reason for this request is the filing of a Petition for Standing in a Contested Case
Hearing (the “Petition”) by Pacific Resources Partnership (PRP) on Thursday, September 24,
2026 with a copy of said petition provided to the Applicant by the Planning Department on
Monday, September 28, 2026. The Petition cites numerous items within the subject SMA Use
Permit application as reasons for it to be granted standing in a contested case proceeding before
the Windward Planning Commission.
Given the receipt of this Petition just four (4) days before the scheduled Windward
Planning Commission hearing on this matter and the broad general statements regarding the
proposed project’s compliance with the County’s General Plan, the State’s EIS law (Chapter
343, Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes) and various environmental concerns, the Applicant has
insufficient time to secure the services of legal counsel and to prepare a proper response to the
statements made within the Petition.
