ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES It was moved by S. Stanbro and seconded by J. Anderson to accept the minutes of the June 15, 2006 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. PUBLIC STATEMENTS None UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1.SampleTreeSignsƒS.Stanbro. S. Stanbro stated that she will finalize the signs after the logo has been revised. 2.Report on the Banyan Trees at the Palace and at the King Kamehameha Hotel ƒ S. Stanbro. S.StanbroreportedthattheDaughtersofHawaiiprefertobethesolecaretakeroftheir Palace Banyan Tree and do not want others to have control over their actions. In reference to theKingKamehamehaHotelBanyanTree,itappearsthatthetreeispartiallyonStateand private land. She will do further research to confirm the identity of the landowner of the privateproperty. 3.Status of a Treatment Plan for the Kokio Tree at Manuka State Park ƒ J. Anderson. J. Anderson stated that she discussed the tree with M. Kraus. They are planning on assessing all exceptional trees. S. Stanbro mentioned that she did go back to the Kokio Tree to take pictures of the healthy‚ side of the tree. She presented pictures of the tree. 4.Revision to the Logo Design ƒ Chair Bisel. Because of comments that the logo included people who didn€t dress like locals, R. Fogia made some changes. S. Gagorik suggested that the alohashirts be revised to include a floral print. Since R. Fogia was willing to make further adjustments, Chair Bisel will follow up with her. 5.Proposed Revision to Nomination of Exceptional Tree Form ƒ Corporation Counsel D. Noda. Counsel Noda distributed the revised forms and discussed the proposed changes: A.Exceptional Tree Nomination Form: Item No. 4, Property Owner(s) ƒ Unbold the last sentence. B.Procedure for Designation of Exceptional Trees: Some clerical changes regarding alphabets and subheadings. C.Acceptance Form for Exceptional Tree Status by Real Property Owner: Ramsayer editing format was used to indicate changes. A reference to tax consequences was inserted on the top of Page 2. After discussion, it was agreed that this sentence was acceptable. It was emphasized, however, that the owners should rely on their accountant for an interpretation of HRS Section 235-19. Chair Bisel recommended that the style and type size of all these documents be standardized. AtthesuggestionofS.Gagorik,thenominationformwillberevisedtoinclude,ontheback, a For Committee use only‚ section to include (1) date accepted by Arborist Committee, (2) date submitted to County Council, (3) action by County Council, (4) date of Council action, and (5) Ordinance Number. She also suggested that the official map be included with the Ordinance. Counsel Noda will forward the drafts to E. Imamura to put it in final form. NEW BUSINESS Counsel Noda distributed a revised Council agenda which included deadlines for submissions. M. Kraus suggested that the Committee create a picture book of the exceptional trees. Included would be historical and current photographs of the trees. Copies would be distributed to people and libraries around the island. Members agreed that it is a worthwile project. M. Kraus will put together a grant request to submit to Kaulunani Council for funding. ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 in the Planning Department Conference Room at 10:00 am.
