I am a Hawaii resident and registered nurse and I feel it is my responsibility to speak out against developments that would threaten our natural resources and greater community. Data centers are a textbook example of prioritizing short term gains over long term stability. Server farms use thousands of gallons of water and megawatts of power to operate and the strain this would put on our local utilities is unjustifiable. The profits from AI and crypto mining, the primary uses of large scale data centers, are concentrated in very few hands, all of which are located outside of Hawaii. In addition, the artificial demand placed on CPUs and GPUs has slowed economic growth in developing countries. The AI bubble is going to burst eventually, and when the losses spill over into the broader economy we will be left with our polluted water and inflated power with nothing to show. Please vote in favor of SB170 and put protective regulations in place against data center exploitation! Respectfully, Cheyenne Cary
