Aloha members of the Leeward Planning Commission,
My name is Mary Meheula and I live in Kailua-Kona, where I am raising my three daughters. I am writing
in support of Bill 170.
A large data center does not belong on this island. We live with limited water, an already strained power
grid, and land that should serve the people who live here. Industrial-scale data centers use enormous
amounts of electricity and water and provide very few permanent local jobs in return. Once one is built,
we live with the costs forever.
Please recommend that the Council pass Bill 170. I also ask that the definition of "data center" be
tightened so the protection is real and cannot be worked around.
Thank you for your work for our island.
